  • Summary

    With minimal supervision, provides legal and non-legal research and reference using a variety of print and online resources to attorneys, paralegals and administrative staff.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • SEC research, including retrieving current and archived documents, researching precedents and particular language, comparing and researching various types of agreements
    • Corporate research, including background information on companies, individuals and transactions, as well as corporate meeting information.
    • Litigation research – retrieving dockets, cases and pleadings, researching complex fact patterns
    • Legislative and regulatory research
    • Non-legal research
    • Provide financial and statistical data
    • Provide data for updating firm seminar and client presentations
    • Supervise requests handled by outside agents for confidentiality and quality
    • Monitor news, SEC filings, dockets and other sources as requested
    • Participate in conducting orientation and training programs for paralegals and new associates
    • Special projects as assigned

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

    • Proficiency with internet research and a majority of the following databases: Westlaw, Lexis Advance, Bloomberg Law, Bloomberg terminal, Capital IQ, ThomsonOne, SDC Platinum, Factset, Intelligize, Pacer, File&Serve, Courtlink, ISS Governance Analytics, Dealpoint Data, Cheetah, Hoover’s Checkpoint, HeinOnline, Accurint
    • Excellent computer skills, Windows and all MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Acrobat. Ability to work with all file formats and troubleshoot database problems
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a highly pressured environment
    • Ability to multi-task and to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them in a timely manner
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to deal diplomatically and tactfully with a diverse clientele, including attorneys, paralegals, administrative staff, outside vendors and occasionally clients

    Education and Experience

    • M.S. in Library Science required. JD a plus
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience performing legal and/or corporate research

    Working Conditions

    Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, etc.
